It is with deep sorrow and humble acceptance of God’s will that we announce the passing of Mr. Hannington Otiende Were, who was murdered on 24 th May 2026.
At the time of his demise, he was an Assistant Compliance Officer III with the National Social Security Fund, based at Huduma Centre Kisumu.
Beloved son of Hon. David Were, former MP, Matungu Constituency and Mama Jane Aoko Were, formerly of Kenindia Assurance Co. Ltd.
He was a grandson of the late Hannington Were and the late Mama Phoebe Were of Lubanga village, Matungu Sub county and the late Mzee Joseph Muasa and Mama Marita Nzilani of Matungulu Sub County.
Loving husband of Faniet Magalu and adoring father of David Were of Xaverian Primary School, Kisumu and Phoebe Chloe Otiende.
Dear brother of Robert Were, Cecilia Aoko, the late Philemon Aoko, Phoebe Aoko, Kevin Shikuku and Joshua Were.
He was a nephew of Wilfred Were, Wilberforce Were, Meshack Were, Freddy Were, Edith Were and Beatrice Were of Matungu Sub county among others.
He was also nephew of Nickson Mutuku, Sammy Maitha, Richard Ndambo and Hon. Raphael Nzau (MCA, Matungulu West) among many others.
He was a cousin of Denis, Geofrey, Jeff, Andrew, Lemby, Lilian, Alex, Naomi among many others.
He was brother-in-law of Noel Odhiambo, Haris Nyali and Esther Mutuku.
A great uncle, cousin and friend to many.
The cortege leaves KWE Funeral Home, Kisumu on Friday 5th June 2026 for burial at his father’s home in Lubanga Village, Matungu Sub county, Kakamega County on Saturday 6th June 2026.
