It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of Mama Cornelia Aijenga Otieno who sadly passed away on the 1st day of August 2026 in Nightingale Hospital Kisumu after a long battle with illness bravely borne.

Mama Cornelia was born in Mahero village, Alego Kaugagi, Siaya County to Mama Gaudensia Opondo and Onyango Otwel K’Oyugi.

She was the devoted and beloved wife of Charles Otieno K’o’jwang of Uhembo-Usonga.

She was mother of retired teacher Victoria Akoth Odhiambo, Dr. Mary Adhiambo Otieno (retired from UNFPA), Prof. Andrew Wassonga Otieno (Northern Illinois University, USA), Celestine Otieno-Lumumba (Lumumba & Lumumba Company Advocates), the late Bonawenture Otieno, Pamela Otieno-Weke (UNEP), George Radido Otieno (Council of Legal Education), Erick Ganda Otieno (Shodai High School, Osaka, Japan) and Dr. Gloria Otieno (Alliance of Bioversity International and CIAT).

Mother-in-law of the late Gilbert Odhiambo Ouko of Oyugis, Aloyce Juma Achoki of Alego, Dr. Teresa Wasonga of Illinois Chicago USA, Prof. Patrick Loch Otieno Lumumba (PLO) of Lumumba & Lumumba Company Advocates, Prof. Patrick Weke of University of Nairobi, Mariam Radido, and Mayumi Ganda of Osaka, Japan.

She was sister of Clement Warindi, Dalmas Adera, the late Maurice Omoya, and the late Peter Otieno.

Stepsister of Alice Anyango Tuju, Margaret Odiero, Caren Adera Lumumba and the late Charles Oloo.

Sister-in-law of Hellen Warindi, Jane Adera, Judith Omoya, Francesca Oluoch and Jennifer Masolo.

Cousin of Jim Oluoch Pete, Selina Akoth, Onyango Pete, Nandi Pete, Maria Anyango Mbidhi and Margaret Nandi Mbidhi among others.

She was beloved grandmother of 23 grandchildren including the late Bob Odhiambo, Eunice, Edwin and Celestine Ouko, Billy & Gerry Achoki, Mike Doughty, Francis and Henry Wasonga, Jane & Michelle Lumumba, Achieng, Akinyi and Omondi Weke, Farida and Shawn Radido, Harumi, Sayu and Uta Ganda and Joy, Simba, Opio & Adongo.

She is a great grandmother of 22 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.

She was co-wife to Teresa Agik, and stepmother to Fransisca, Joshua, the late Roseline, Kimani, Ursula, Patrick, Hilary, Daniel and Naftali.

The body will be moved from Rapcom Funeral Home for a funeral service at St. Paul’s Catholic Church Awendo on Sunday, the 16th day of August 2026.

Burial will be at her home in Ombo Bita village, Awendo Sub County, Migori County on the 17th day of August 2026.
