It is with deep sorrow and humble acceptance of God’s will that we announce the passing of Elder John Opiyo Ochanda, who peacefully rested on 19th May 2026 at his home, surrounded by his loved ones.
Elder John lived a life marked by faith, service, kindness, and unwavering commitment to family and community.
He worked diligently at Telkom Kenya, where he served faithfully for many years.
A devoted member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, Elder John served as an elder at the Nairobi South SDA Church and Ouya SDA Church, dedicating much of his life to spiritual leadership, mentorship, and community service.
He was the beloved husband of Phoebe Achieng Opiyo and a loving father of Thomas Omondi, Roslida Parker, Jordan Rabach, Benta Awino, and Janet Akinyi.
He was also a cherished father-in-law of Sara, Julian, Florida, and Audi.
Elder John was a proud grandfather of Shirlyn, Leon, Jace, Amara, Chloe, Alfred, Dylan, and Arlo, all of whom brought him immense joy and pride.
He was son of the late Roslida Khoyi and the late Simeon Ochanda, brother of Cornelius Aol and Glisphia Ondiek, and brother-in-law of Willis Martin Mbago, the late Risper, the late Patrick, and the late Janet, and an uncle to many.
His wisdom, warmth, leadership, and unwavering faith will be greatly missed by his family, friends, church, and the wider community.
Family and friends continue to meet daily for prayers and support at his home in Magiwa Estate in Ngumo and his rural home in Kanyaluo.
A memorial service will be held at Nairobi South SDA Church on Wednesday, 3rd June 2026 from 2:00 PM.
The cortege will leave Montezuma Monalisa Funeral Home on Thursday, 4th June 2026 for the burial at his home in Kanyaluo on 5th June 2026.
