Sheriff / Daktari
23 July 1945 – 5 October 2025
One Year Without Sheriff
On 5 October 2025, we lost a man who was many things to many people.
Brilliant, fiercely independent, wonderfully unconventional, and armed with a mischievous sense of humour, Daktari lived life on his own terms, often with that unmistakable cheeky glint in his eye that we came to love.
The first in his family to attend college, he became an accomplished agricultural scientist whose research helped improve livelihoods and put food on tables. His development of the Maseno Double Cobler maize variety and contributions to agronomy earned him national recognition through the Order of the Grand Warrior of Kenya (OGW).
To us, he was Sheriff. A man who raised his household with firmness. Who extended warmth and kindness to strangers. Whose expectations were formidable. His heart was big. Life with Sheriff was never ordinary.
One year later, we miss you Sheriff. Ahinya. We miss your wit, wisdom, beautiful brain, stubbornness, and extraordinary influence. Your legacy lives on in the soils you helped cultivate, the minds you shaped, and the family you loved.
The Man. The Myth. The Legend.
Shukran, Sheriff. Wuonwa, Nero yawu.
Forever cherished by Esther and Hildah; Winstars Kiri, Kisu, Judi, Sami, Sungur, Lobsta, Joan, Lami, Pauline, Tont, Dori, and all your grandbabies.
