It is with humble acceptance of God’s will that we announce the untimely passing of Josef Otieno Auma Oduwo, that occurred peacefully during sleep in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, on 27th May 2026 where he lived and worked for two decades.
Josef Otieno was from East Seme, Kaila, Orando School in Seme Sub-county, but his family settled in nearby Kajulu at Koker.
He was the son of Eng George Oduwo Nyangasi, formerly of University of Nairobi, Faculty of Engineering and Dr Rispah Oduwo, OGW, formerly Chief Scientist at the National Council for Science & Technology.
He was brother of Elizabeth (Lisa) Akoth Oduwo of London UK, Dr Paul Nyangasi Oduwo and Dr Noah Akala Oduwo.
He was the devoted father of Ah-Reum Auma Choi Oduwo shared lovingly with Sunjae Choi of Melbourne, Australia.
He was Uncle to Mandla Njeri Nyangasi, Aaliyah Apiyo Akala, Yasmin Adongo Akala, Soufiane Ratego Akala.
He was a brother-in-law of Naila Fauzia Ismail. He was a grandson of Efraim Nyangasi Chuchu of
Seme and the late Mwalimu Noah Amolo (Chamluchi) of Masana. He was also a nephew of Wilfrida Odede, late Mwalimu Fred Odipo Nyangasi. Mwalimu
Judith Ayoki Awuor, Mwalimu Jane Akinyi Nyangasi, Bishop James chuchu Juma, Ruth Achieng Nyandeje and Silas Otieno Nyangasi.
He was a nephew of Huldah Modi Aroka, the late Eng Sam Amolo of Odila Engineering, the late Theodora Aseto of KNH, the late Prof Milcah Achola of UoN, Mwalimu Zilpah Anditi of Kapuonja. Eng James Amolo formerly Kenya Breweries, Mwalimu Rita Otieno of Bondo Academy, Mwalimu Wilson Amolo of Kisumu Boys and Alois Olumbe.
He was also a nephew of the late George Amolo of Telcom, the late Anna Otiende of Amani Counseling Center, Grace Bicha Oloo of Botswana, Mwalimu Joan Najoli of Chavakali and Pauline Tolo of KIRDI.
He was a nephew of Prof William Ogara and the late Dr Pius Achola.
He was a much loved cousin of Josephine Anyango, Josephine Atieno, Noah Otiende, David Ogara, George Awuor, Paul Awuor, the Arokas, the Asetos, the Amolos amongst others.
Family and friends are meeting daily for prayers and funeral arrangements in Kileleshwa Nairobi and Seme.
The Harambee/Fundraising Service shall be held on Tuesday, 23rd June 2026 at 5.00 p.m. at All Saints Cathedral, Nairobi.
The Memorial and Funeral Service shall take place on Wednesday, 24th June 2026 at 2.00 p.m. at All Saints Cathedral, Nairobi.
The body shall leave Nairobi for Seme, Kisumu County on Friday, 26th June 2026, followed by evening prayers and a night vigil at the family home in Seme, Kisumu County.
The funeral and burial service shall be held on Saturday, 27th June 2026 at Nyabera Primary School, Seme, Kisumu County, commencing at 11.00 a.m., followed by interment at the Oduwo family home at 2.00 p.m.
