It is with deep sorrow and humble acceptance of God’s will that we announce the passing of Prof. Cornelio Oyola Abungu.
He was the son of Mzee Nicodemus Abungu Owuor and Mama Ada Ojwando Odero Abungu.
He was the loving husband of Lilian Abungu, devoted father of the late Junior, Salome, Ada, Becky, Joseph, Mary, Henry,Yvonne, Joshua, Faith, and John, and grandfather to Eva and Andrew.
Prof. Abungu was a distinguished Professor of Mathematics and Economics.
He held a B.Sc. in Economics (Minor in Mathematics) from Jarvis Christian College, Texas, USA, an M.Sc. in Education (Mathematics), and an Ed.D. (Doctor of Education) from East Texas State University, USA.
He served at the University of Nairobi as Senior Lecturer, Professor in the Department of Mathematics, and Chairman of the School of Mathematics.
His work contributed greatly to the teaching of mathematics and economics-related mathematics.
Family and friends are informed that planning meetings will be held at Nairobi Central SDA Church on 17th , 19th , and 23 rd March 2026.
The official fundraiser will take place on Thursday 19 th March 2026, and the memorial service will be held on Tuesday 24th March 2026, both at Nairobi Central SDA Church.
The cortege will leave Nairobi for Rongo on Thursday 26th March 2026, with burial on Friday 27th March 2026 at the family home in Rongo Town, Kamagambo, Kasere Namba Nyamuga.
Friends and relatives are welcome to join the family as we celebrate his life.
