It is with deep sorrow and humble acceptance of God’s will that we announce the passing of Mama Calasina Nekesa Ojwang, who departed this life peacefully at the Nairobi hospital.
Mama lived a long, dignified life filled with love, resilience, and an unshakable faith.
She was a pillar of strength and grace –devoted to her family, her faith, and her community.
Her life was a shining example of compassion, humility, and wisdom.
Tomany, she was not just a mother or grandmother, but a true friend and a comforting presence.
She was the daughter of the late Cosma Khatuyu and the late Jassy Opolo and daughter in-law of the late Lamberto and the late Sarah Bunyasi.
Sister of Dolophiina Ouna, David Wanzala and Joseph Okonga.
She was the beloved wife of the late Mzee Raphael Ojwang Bunyasi and co-wife of the late Dorica, Safina, Prescullar, Getrude and the late Electina.
Sister in-law of Mary Kwena, Zachary Bunyasi, the late Thomas Bunyasi and the late Margaret Odhiambo, Hon John Sakwa Bunyasi and Phyllis Bunyasi, Elizabeth Ochola, the late Cleophas Yonga, the late Philister Okwara, the late Janerose Okhoba, Roseline Nabonwe, the late Aleri, Beatrice Odhiambo, Mary Yonga and Josephine Akhungu.

She leaves behind a beautiful legacy in her family, including her 46 grandchildren, Lindah Ojwang, Dr. Deckillah Omukoba, Judith Ojwang, Mark Wangai, Paul Wangai, Martina Ong’aria, Millan Ong’aria, Edwin Ojwang, Shannon Jones (Aus), Janet Ojwang, Damaris Nanjira, Protencia Oteba, Cynthia Okumu, Ronald Ong’aria, Isabellah Taabu, Brenan Okumu, the late Daniel Omukoba, Teddy Oteba, Rachael Nekesa, the late Gabriella Ong’aria, Billy Oteba, Oscar Oteba, Manuella Ong’aria, Esther Nekesa, Ivy Nekesa, Collins Ojwang, Samuel Ong’aria, Moureen Ojwang, Lambert Othieno, Robert Othieno, Juliet Nekesa, Rodrick Nyagua, Jesse Oteba, Esther Otieno, Sakwa Othieno, Venessa Calsine, Marc-Foe Khatuyu, Deborah Otieno, Joel Otieno, Wesley Ojwang, Raphaela Ojwang, Raphael Sakwa, Jezreel Wanga, Ryan Sakwa, Nolan Nyagua, Bellamy Nyagua, and Reign Sakwa.
She was also blessed with 17 great-grandchildren, Quincy, Alexa, Trevor, Ethan, Layla (AUS), Rafael (AUS), Finley (AUS), Gabriella, Celine, Brianna, Gwen-Perri (USA), Ryn (USA), Ivy,Ariana,Adrian, Jayde, and Ayden a joyful extension of her legacy, Her departure leaves a void in our lives, but her spirit lives on in every life she touched.
There will be a requiem mass on 16/07/2025 from 2.00pm at the Shrine of The Sacred Heart of Jesus, Karen, Nairobi.
The burial will be held on the 19/07/2025 at her home in Madende Village, Busia County.
