It is with very heavy hearts that we inform you that our beloved Dr. Rhoda Muthoni Kahara went to be with the Lord on Friday, October 10, 2025.
Dr. Rhoda, wife of Nairobi’s 5th Mayor Prof. Nathan Kahara, was described by the Sunday Nation and other media as the best mayoress.
She is survived by eight children-Richard Muriithi, Eunique Wambui (USA), Grace Wanjiru, Elijah Karagu (USA), Elizabeth Njeri, Ken Muriithi, Gladdy Wambui (UK), Nancy Wambui (MALAYSIA) and adopted Steve Muriithi Mwangi.
She was the second daughter of the late Elijah Karagu Nathan & the late Grace Wanjiru Karagu.
Daughter In-love of the late Joseph Muriithi & the late Gladwell Wambui Muriithi.
Sister of Deborah Wanjiku (USA), Nathan Ngonjo, Michael Makara, Elizabeth Wambui, Hezekiah Mungai, Joseph Ngure, Arthur Gacheru, Ruth Wairimu, Nelson Kamau, Joy Muthoni, Julia Waithera (USA), Julia Mwihaki (USA) and Henry Thumbi.
She was the sister in love of the late Joseph Maina, the late Elizabeth Njeri, the late Elijah Mwangi, the late Samuel Wainaina, the late Hannah Wanjiku, Mary Waithera, David Gachina and the late James Karanja.
Her fourteen grandchildren are Whitney Muthoni (USA), Sinclair Kahara, Angel Muthoni, Nathan Kahara, Brianna Wangeci, Wesley Kahara, Hope Wambui, Chryslee Muthoni, Nathan Mbugua, Gavin Maina, Arrianah Muthoni, Benjamin Kahara, Nathan Karume and Nathan Kahara (USA).
Dr. Rhoda, a passionate humanitarian who dedicated her life to serving the elderly and vulnerable children through the Dr. Kahara Foundation, Kenya Red Cross Society and other organisations, lost the battle after a long, bravely borne illness.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday October 23, 2025 at St. Andrews PCEA church Nairobi from 11am to 1pm.
The funeral will take place Saturday October 25, 2025, at the Kahara Farm in Olkalao, Nyandarua County.
Cortege will depart Lee Funeral Home at 7am. Service will start at 11am.
