DADA, LAY READER MAMA RAEL ATSIENO WANGA

It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing on to glory of our matriarch Dada, Lay Reader Mama Rael Atsieno Wanga who passed away on 28th August 2025.

Beloved wife of the late Lay Canon William James Wanga, daughter of the late Enock Ombucha and the late Salome Makokha, was daughter-in-law of Zacharia Rakula and Elizabeth Alando (both deceased). 

Loving mother of Ben Wanga, Dr Henry Wanga Consultant Radiologist, the late John Wicks Wanga, Peninah Musikoyo, David Wanga, Dr Christopher Wanga Director in the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development, Evans Wanga and Caroline Aram of Kenya Revenue Authority. 

Was mother-in-law of Margaret, Agnes, Domtilla, Hannington Musikoyo, Eunice, Ruth, Cheruto and Hassan Nyanyuma. 

Grandmother of Lilian, Emily, Hon. Joan Wanga Busia County, Beryl, Jimmy, Patricia, Yvonne, Stella, Francis, Dr. Stephanie, the late Shem, Billy, Cedric, Mark, Sharon, Nelson, Raphael, Nicholas, Timothy, Karen, Dan, Emmanuel, Sandra, Melea, Paula, Peris, Nicole, Nicholas, Nikita, Nigel, Rael, Ida, Teddy, Faraji, Malik and Purity.

Great-grandmother to more than 25 great-grandchildren.

Meetings are being held in Nairobi and at her home in Elugulu, Busia County.

A Memorial service will be held at the All-Saints Cathedral. Nairobi on Tuesday 9th September 2025 at 2.00pm.

Thereafter a fundraiser to offset burial expenses will be held at the All-Saints Cathedral Halls on Tuesday 9th September 2025 at 5.00pm. 

The body will be removed from the mortuary in Kisumu on Thursday 11th September 2025, for a Memorial service and an overnight vigil at St. Barnabas, Esikura Church – Butula, Sub-County, Busia County, thereafter a final Memorial service will be held at St. John’s Church – Lugulu Archdeaconery, Butula, Sub-County, Busia County on Friday 12th September 2025 at 7.00am.

Thereafter the body shall be moved for an overnight stay at her home in Elugulu Village, Butula Sub County, Busia County where the burial service and ceremony will be held on Saturday 13th September 2025 at 9.00am.

We thank God for Mama’s life.
