AMB. JAPHETH KIMANZI ILAKO
6th February 1935 – 8th September 2025

It is with deep sorrow and humble acceptance of God’s will that we announce the passing on of a beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather and great-grandfather after an illness bravely borne.

He was a devoted former ambassador, teacher, administrator, a great mentor, role model and a friend to many.

Beloved son of the late James Ilako Mututa, the late Thoki Ndile and the late Loise Kanyali Mwetu.

Husband of Priscilla Kimanzi Ilako. Father of James and Ailish Ilako, Phillip and Joyce Ilako, Charles and Ilse Ilako, Lucy Ilako, Lydia and Richard Kimenyi, Pamela Ilako, Timothy and Ruth Ilako and Michael and Dr. Natasha Ilako.

Grandfather of Sianna, Siobhan, Kui and Thiongo, Kimani and Nellie, Nimo, Leon, Tyrone, Chepi, David, Jonathan, Nathan, Calvin, Ilani, Arianna and Micah. Great- grandfather of Caleb and Zachary.

Brother of the late Kavengi Mwengi, the late John Lasi Ilako, the late Titus Mututa Ilako, Jane Kawelu, the late Christine Kivalason, the late Jemimah Musyoka, Justina Muinde, Dr. Festus Mwetu Ilako, Celestine Kiema, Bendetta Malusi, the late Petronila Kanyaa, the late Florence Kamene, Georey Muthui Ilako, Doris Nzambi Ashioyah, Augustus Lavu Ilako and the late Winfred Mutua.

Brother-in-law of Rose John, Eunice Tito Ilako, Prof. Dunera Mwetu Ilako, the late Sophie Muthui Ilako, Monica Lavu Ilako, the late Eizabeth and Daniel, the late Loise and David, the late Monica and Lai, Susan and the late Titus, Abel and Breta and the late Ann Mutethya and Ben. 

He was an uncle and cousin to many.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, 16 th September 2025, at the Nairobi Baptist Church, Ngong Road, from 12:00 p.m.

The cortege will leave Lee Funeral Home on Thursday, 18th September 2025, at 6:30 a.m. for a funeral service at ACK St. James Kathiia and thereafter the burial at his homestead in Kathiia Village, Mithini Location, Kitui West Sub-County.

Prayer and planning meetings will be held on Friday, 12th September 2025, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. and Saturday, 13th September 2025, from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m . at Nairobi Baptist Church, Ngong Road.

Loved ones are welcome to pay their respects at the viewing at Lee Funeral Home on Monday, 15th September 2025, between 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.
