Dr. George Jones, of Yonkers, New York; Boulder, Colorado; and Nairobi, Kenya, passed away after a long illness on June 30th, 2026, at the age of 91.
He is survived by wife Carole Jones; children Tamara Jones and Gregory Jones; grandchildren Maxwell and Lucas; and nephew Irving Jones.
Dr. Jones’ USAID career encompassed: Health & Development Officer, USAID Niger, 1977–1980; REDSO/WCA (Regional Economic Development Services for Central and West Africa), 1980–1986; AID Washington Sahel Region Desk Officer, 1986–1989; Deputy Director, USAID Sri Lanka, 1989–1993; USAID Representative in Eritrea, 1993–1995; and Mission Director, USAID Kenya, 1995–1998.
After retirement from USAID, Dr. Jones became USIU External Relations and Development Director, 1999–2010, and USIU Board Member, 2010 – 2013.
