
It is with deep sorrow that the family, church, community and colleagues at Maseno University humbly accept God’s will on the passing of Elder George Onyango Lihare who left us on 24th May 2026 at 5.30 pm at Agakhan Hospital Kisumu.
He was a beacon of light, wisdom and strength to everyone who knew him.
He was a cherished husband of Beatrice Onyango of Great Lakes University Kisumu, devoted father of Eugine Stanley, Queen Vallary, Nicole Joyline of Booker Academy and Winstone Griffins of Mudasa Academy, Gurdian of Bella Amondo and Elliana.
Beloved son of Peter Lihare Rateng and Ruth Atieno Nyaroche of Kolunje Magwar; grandson of the late Raymond Rateng Owuor and Mama Barba Anyango.
He was a brother of Grace Achieng’, Millicent Auma, Eunice Amondi, Jane Aoko, the late Jashon Owino, John Odhiambo and the late Mary Juma, Johannes Otieno Lawrence, Dan Omondi, Onyango, Lilian Anyango (Billia) the late, Beatrice (sister), Atieno, Achibo, and Lovi.
He was a son-in-law of Ben Onyango Outa and the late Joyce Anyango Onyango of Seme Kakelo, the late Mary Atieno Aol Seme-Kolunje and Elizabeth Onyango of Gem-Yala.
Brother in law of Lillian Awuor, Engineer Martin Onyango, Millicent Onyango, Josephine Akinyi, Victor Omondi, Collins Ouma, George Odiwuor, Esther Loreine, Job Frankline Kisumu National Polytechnic, Felix Odhiambo, Churchill Okoth, Esther Akinyi, Beatrice Awuor, Bella Amondi and Mirriam Onyango.
His uncles are John Nyaroche, Moses Nyaroche, Hezron Nyaroche of Seme Kombewa, Charles Ongwech, the late Joseph Owuor, the late Dr. Otieno Rae, the late Onyango Rae and the late Dr. Ouma Rae.
He was a cousin to many in the larger family of Owuor Rae. A Harambee will take place on Sunday 21/6/ 2026 in his church in Maseno opposite Elroy Petrol Station from 2.00pm.
The body shall be removed from Agakhan Morgue on Thursday 25/6/ 2026, followed by a service at his residence in Maseno from 1pm and there after proceed to his home in Seme for Burial on Friday 26/6/2026 at Riwa Village,West Kolunje Sub Location, Otwenya Location, Seme Sub County in Kisumu County.
Mr. Lihare was a dedicated employee at Maseno University as a Senior Technician known for integrity and mentorship.
He was a respected leader and chairman within the Maseno neighborhood and community.
