
It is with great sorrow and humble acceptance of God’s will that we announce the sudden passing of Dr. James Kariuki, Consultant General Surgeon and Cardiothoracic Surgery Fellow at The Karen Hospital. The death occurred on 24th May 2026.
He was the beloved son of the late Willy Kariuki and the late Magdalene Aiyabei; beloved brother of Evans Kariuki (Qatar) and Rick Kimani (Racetrack Comprehensive).
He was also a cherished grandson of Elizabeth Muthoni Gichuki. Daktari was a loving nephew, cousin, uncle, colleague, and friend to many.
He was a valued member of The Karen Hospital family, remembered for his dedication, professionalism, compassion, and commitment to patient care.
His friendly nature, kind spirit, and ability to relate with people made him greatly loved by colleagues, patients, and friends alike.
He previously served at St. Mary’s Hospital Nakuru, Aga Khan Hospital Mombasa, Mater Hospital, among other institutions, where he touched many lives through his service and care.
His passing is a great loss to all who had the privilege of knowing and working alongside him.
As we mourn this painful loss, we extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, colleagues, and loved ones during this difficult time. Our thoughts and prayers are with them as we stand together in grief and remembrance.
A memorial service will be held at PCEA Karen along Karen Dagoretti Road next to The Hub on Friday 29th May 2026 from 12.00pm.
The cortege will leave Montezuma Funeral Home on Saturday, 30th May 2026 at 4:00 a.m. to proceed for burial at the family home in Bahati, Nakuru.
The funeral service will begin at 10:00 a.m.
