With great sadness, the Makayoto family announces the passing of our beloved patriarch, Dr. James Dan Omolo Makayoto (formerly of Mumias Sugar Company).
Husband of the late Beatrice Akinyi Apopa. Son of the late Mzee Michael Yoto and the late Grace Akumu Radigo.
Stepson of the late Beldina Awuor Olwende, Clementine Aoko Rangili, Peninah Yoto and Julia Awuor.
Son in law of Mzee Philip Apopa and Martina Aluoch Apopa, Domtila Aduda, Pamela Apopa (all late), Rose Apopa and Philgona Apopa.
Father of Rhodah (Washington State Department of Health), Dr Lyndah, Eng. Bill, Grace Akumu (Liberty Kenya), Sandra, Philip Leo, CPA Verra (O.A.G), Steve, John and Dorothy.
Father-in-law of Brian Owaka and Myra Mabunde.
Doting grandfather of Grace, Jimmie,Yuri, JayDee, Kobbie and Betsy. Brother of Eng. John Akoko, Dinah Adiedo, Esau Nyanja, Kerina Akello, Charles Ayieko, Ben Otieno, Cotts Amoko, Mary Adoyo, Dolly Achieng, Bob Omollo, Samuel Okech (all late), Margaret Otega, Dr Moses Oketch, Prof. Washington Ochieng, Tabitha Ochieng, Shem Yoto among others. Brother-in-law of Thomas Apopa, John Otega, Charles Ochieng, Leonard Owilla (all late), Eric Adiedo, Pamela Ochanda among others.

The cortege will depart from Aga Khan Funeral Home, Kisumu, on Thursday, 14th May 2026 at 2:00 pm for an overnight vigil at his home in Kendu Bay.
Burial will take place on Friday, 15th May 2026 at his residence in Ramba Village, next to Kideswa Primary School, Kendu Bay, Homa Bay County
