It is with deep sorrow and humble acceptance of God’s will that we announce the passing of the Rev. Canon Prof. James Kombo, the immediate former Vice-Chancellor of St. Paul’s University, who faithfully served from January 2021 to December 2025.
During his tenure, he provided visionary, Christ-centered leadership and made a lasting contribution to the University’s growth, academic excellence and spiritual formation. His commitment to service, scholarship and the transformation of lives through education will remain a legacy within the University and beyond.
He was a devoted husband of Pamela Akinyi Kombo and a loving father of Leonida Claire Kombo, Philip Juma Kombo and Samuel Christopher Kombo whose lives he deeply cherished and nurtured.
He was a father-in-law of Martin Ndeti from Wote.
Son of the late Archdeacon Paul Obiero Kombo and Mama Canon Leonida Were Kombo, nephew of the late Cornel Ogweno, Sabina Ogweno, the late Charles Kombo, Elizabeth Kombo, the late James Owuor and Jenifer Owuor from Alego Kogelo, Siaya County.
Brother of the late Samuel Kombo and the late Peter Kombo, Archdeacon George Kombo, Gilbert Kombo and Moses Kombo, Evangelist Wilson Ogweno, Pastor Nelson Kombo, George Owuor, Anne Nguju, the late Joan Akinyi, Florence Achieng, Peres Otieno, Jane Omanyo, Rose Achieng and others.
Son-in-law of the late Philip Juma Nyabua and Loice Ageng’a Juma from Jimo Ragen.
Brother-in-law of the late Seth Oluoch, Arthur Onyango, Tom Amimo, Philemon Juma, the late Newton Odhiambo, the late Bernard Juma, Daniel Juma, Mary Juma, the late Naphtaly Juma, Nancy Juma and Nicholas Juma.
Family, friends, and the wider church community join together in mourning his passing while celebrating a life devoted to faith, service, and education.
Planning meetings are being held daily from 4:00 p.m. at All Saints Cathedral, Nairobi, alongside prayers at the family home.
A fundraising meeting is scheduled for Friday, 8 th May 2026 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the same venue.
A memorial and requiem service will be held on Tuesday, 12th May 2026 at 12:00 p.m. at All Saints Cathedral, Nairobi.
The burial will take place on Saturday, 16th May 2026. Contributions may be sent via Paybill 4574577 (Account Name:Your Name).
