It is with deep sorrow we announce the passing of Prof David Githongo Gatei of Langata Nairobi which occurred on 20th March 2026.
Son of the late Major John Gatei Muiruri and late Rachel Wairimu. Beloved husband of Margaret Wambui Gatei.
Loving father of the late Andrew Githongo and Lucy Wanjiku Gatei, Philip Maina, Rachel Wairimu, Elizabeth Wanjira (US) and Jix Wanjiku (US).
Brother of the late Elizabeth and Nelson Mahui, late Samuel and Charity Muiruri Gatei, late Daniel Njuguna Gatei, Hannah & Godfrey Munyui, Zackary N. Gatei and Joyce W. Gatei,Violet Wanja Gatei and late Ruth Njeri and late James Gatheca Waweru.
Brother in-law of Christopher and Cecilia Njogu, late Elder Crispus and Joyce Gathigia Wangombe and Christine Wacuka.
He was grandfather of David Githongo, Philip Maina, Tracy Wambui (Australia), Joy Lawrence (US), Joshua Lawrence (US) and Andrew Githongo Maina.
He was uncle and friend to many.
Friends and family are meeting for prayers and funeral arrangements at his home – Thuci Close Onyonka Estate Langata from 5 to 6pm from Saturday 21st March 2026.
The cortege will leave Montezuma Funeral Home, Mbagathi Way on Thursday 26th March 2026 at 9.00am for a funeral service and burial at the Gatei’s home in Ngemwa Village, Ikinu, Kiambu County at 11.00am.
