It is with humble acceptance of God’s will that the Agwa family announces the passing of Mzee Samson Agwa Odidi, which occurred on January 12, 2026, at Aga Khan Hospital, Kisumu.
Mzee Samson Agwa Odidi was the son of the late William H. Odidi and the late Mama Sara Ayiengo Odidi, and a beloved brother of the late Shem Goga, the late Lucia Obinga, the late Reuben Opon, the late Nicodemo Were Odidi, Ludia Apiyo Ochino and the late Ishmael Achieng.
He was a husband of Canon Olivia Agwa and the late Mama Fatuma Agwa, and a loving father of the late Binns Agwa, Kenneth Agwa, Dorothy Agwa, George Oduor Agwa, the late Grace Dina Olali, Henry Hussein Agwa, William Odidi Agwa (Mzee), Ishmael Agwa (Tano), Sarah Agwa (Sakina) and the late Musa Agwa.
His relationship with his in-laws laws was very strong. He was a brother in law of the late Adet Okwatta, late Prof.Amos Odenyo, late Leo Obuong, late Robert Okwatta, Prof. Victor Odenyo, Olga Onyango, Booker Odenyo, Late Dan Odenyo all of Got Regea Gem Yala, and an in law of the late Hawo Godana,Yusuf Godana, Rukia Godana, Omar Godana, Kabale, Jarso Godana all of Isiolo, late Dinah Opon, late Edith Goga, late Joyce Atiang Goga, Elizabeth Goga, late Maritha Obinga, late Rosa Were and Janet Osir Mzee Agwa was a cherished father-in-law of the late Lillian Nyosawa, Rachel Agwa, Tony Otieno Oreng, Rose Murage, the late John Olali, Eva Awinda, Lydia Owiti, Fred Monroe and Kame Galgalo.
He was a beloved grandfather of many, including Olivia (Mamji), Sammy, William (Ochido), Maureen, Perry, Biko,Victor, Cameron, Malaika, Sonny, Olga, Victoria, Kennedy, Sasha, Nigel, Myra, Tyrell, George, Arnold, Olivia (Mamie), Lynda, Jemtti, Stella Footes, Benta, Godana, Miguel, Tevin, Bradley, William Jr, Allan, Sammy Jr and Samson Agwa.
He was also a doting great-grandfather of Terry, Archie, Pesh, Binns Archie, Wendy, Lilian, Trevor, Sylvia, Meyonne, Blessing, Cole, Shawn, Olivia Robinson, Katelle and Fatuma. He was also blessed to see his great-great-grandchild Tiger.
The cortege will leave the Aga Khan Hospital Morgue in Kisumu on January 29, 2026.
The burial service will take place on January 30, 2026, at his ancestral home in Kanjira, Karachuonyo, Homa Bay County.
