It is with deep sorrow and humble acceptance of God’s will that we announce the passing on of Senior Assistant Inspector General of Police (SAIG) Lazarus Simiyu Opicho on Monday, 28th September 2026 at the Aga Khan Hospital in Nairobi after a short illness bravely borne.
He was the loving husband of Irene Midecha Opicho (Kenya Power), a devoted father of Ian Kasawa Opicho (Public Service Commission), Ivy Nabalayo Opicho (Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs), Lyn Nekoye Opicho (Strathmore University), Mark Malaba Opicho (St. Joseph’s Boys Kitale) and Praise Malaba Simiyu Opicho (Lakewood Group of Schools).
Funeral Arrangements: Burial and related arrangements are ongoing daily at Uhuru Camp from 5:00 PM, off Raila Odinga Way, Nairobi County and Wehoya Village, Sirende Ward, Trans-Nzoia County.
A fundraiser will be held on Wednesday 7th October 2026 at the All Saints Cathedral, Valley Road, Nairobi commencing at 5.00 pm.
A requiem service will be held at Friends Church, Lang’ata, Opp. Lang’ata Boys High School, Nairobi on Monday, 12th October 2026.
There will be another requiem service at Maili Saba Grounds, Wehoya Village, Trans Nzoia County on Thursday, 15th October 2026 followed by burial on the same day at his home in Wehoya Village, Sirende Location, Trans-Nzoia County.
